5B Rules, Rewards, and Consequences
PAWS Rules (School Wide)
  • P Please follow directions the first time given.
  • A Always keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Rewards
  • In order to reward positive behavior, students will be eligible for a party each quarter if they receive any combination of fewer than 5 detentions for behavior or recess detentions for unfinished homework.
  • Homeworkopoly - Each week students will get the chance to play Homeworkopoly, this is a reward for students who turn their homework in weekly. At the end of the week if every assignment has been turned in on time, students will then get to play on the Homeworkopoly board for prizes, special privileges, or candy.
Consequences
  • Tardy- Students will be allowed two unexcused late arrivals per quarter.  On the 3rd and each subsequent late arrival, students will be assigned to a detention.  This detention is issued by the office.
  • Misbehavior (per day)
    • First time-warning
    • Second time-check mark
    • Third time-detention (This will be stapled in the agenda and must be signed)
    • Fourth time-sent to the principal’s office
      *A severe occurrence results in the student being sent to the principal’s office and parents are notified.  The principal will determine discipline measures taken.  This usually results in the loss of the quarter party.  
Detention
    • Detention is held Monday through Friday after school, 3:00-3:30 p.m. There is no detention hall on early dismissal days.  
    • Detentions are given for not following the PAWS rules or classroom rules, and other instances as listed in the student handbook.  They are also given for grade reports not returned signed within two days and any five days of unsigned Agendas in a quarter.
    • Middle School teachers will supervise Detention Hall.
    • Students who receive a detention slip are required to attend Detention Hall. Students can serve a detention on the day the notice is given or the following day.  Students will be allowed to call home to notify parents of a detention slip.  
    • Students who misbehave during detention will be assigned a one day in-school suspension.  
    • Students who incur ten detentions in a quarter will be assigned a one day in-school suspension.  
    • If a student does not attend Detention Hall within the given time period, he/she will receive a second detention.  If a student skips Detention Hall after receiving a detention for skipping, he/she will be assigned to the Refocus Room the next day.  
Homework Policy


  • Homework is due the day after it is assigned, unless otherwise specified.
  • Each quarter the student is given 4 homework passes to use in any subject.
    • Using a homework pass:
      • Day 1-Homework pass used, assignment is due the next day, homework pass will be stapled in the Agenda.  
      • Day 2-If homework is still incomplete; the student will receive a recess detention. When they receive a recess detention they will be required to stay in at recess until the assignment is completed.  
    • No Homework Pass Left
      • Student stays in at recess to complete the homework.
      • Student fills out a recess detention form and staples it in his/her Agenda.  
    • At the end of the quarter, all unused homework passes can be exchanged for candy.
